Newsflash - so happiness isn't the ultimate goal!
Thursday 19 May, 2011
My happiness ‘guru’ Dr Martin Seligman has written a new book called ‘Flourish: A New Theory of Positive Psychology’. Just when I was getting used to the old theory, le professor throws me a curve ball and tells me that happiness is only one part of my ultimate goal – which is now to flourish.
The wise old sage asserts that in order to flourish I will need to establish 5 ‘pillars’ and that these 5 ‘pillars’ (shown below) are fundamental to my well-being.
- Positive emotions
- Engagement
- Relationships
- Meaning
- Accomplishment
-
Furthermore, once I have achieved these I can say I have a ‘good’ life, a life that is pleasant, engaged, meaningful, achieving and connected. RESULT!
