Perfect Verse captures the fun at Newbury Business Group

Wednesday 1 June, 2011

For those in the know each and every Friday in West Berkshire morning starts with great fun, frolics and networking at the Newbury Business Group.

Last week was no exception with a packed group meeting at Donnington Valley Golf Club for a hearty full English breakfast and together with the traditional networking banter and one-minute presentations, we were also treated to a very original 10 minutes from one of our members.

Hayley Ryan from Verbatim, The Phone Answering Service, donned a mortar board, black gown and wielding a cane as she set about teaching us the value of answering the telephone.

The pressure was on as she demanded answers and even dished out dunce’s hat for photographer Mike Samuels for some perceived slight! While those who shone won prizes – and everyone learned that missed calls or leaving them to an answer phone could cost your business dearly – and certainly costs more than using an answer service like Verbatim.

One of numerous guests in the room was our good friend and funny scribe Jan Jack of Perfect Verse, who many, not least those on the 4 Networking circuit, will know can take your feelings and turn them into side splitting, or indeed tear jerking, verse.

Not content with having networkers gasping and chuckling over their breakfasts, Jan wrote the following verse, which is the most original way someone has ever said thank you for the free breakfast we offer guests.

A different Friday morning…

I was asked as a guest to this meeting
I went for the very first time,
It was welcoming, friendly and buzzy,
And I’ve summarised things, in a rhyme.

Verbatim presented their business
With Hayley, stood wielding a cane
The men were transfixed by the vision
They’ve booked her to come back again

Account-a-bility did all the scoring,
Deane and Caroline joined in the quiz
And Mike got a little bit naughty,
Hayley’s outfit had caused quite a tizz

I don’t think his mind was on business,
With some of the things that he said,
He was nearly sent into the corner,
But was given a dunce hat instead,

A lively informative session,
With Miriam keeping the ‘chair’
Thanks for a really great meeting,
I’m so very glad I was there…

That wonderful tribute is naturally ©Jan Jack 2011 and get in touch with her if you would like a verse of your own. And get in touch with the team at Newbury Business Group if you fancy joining us as a guest for networking, fun and a free breakfast one Friday.
